Summary

This study explores whether cell-membrane nanodiscs can be modularly functionalized for targeted drug delivery. The researchers used SpyCatcher-SpyTag covalent coupling to attach an anti-EGFR affibody to nanodiscs loaded with doxorubicin. The targeted nanodiscs showed improved tumor cell binding in vitro, accumulated in tumors in a mouse model, and inhibited breast cancer growth. This modular strategy could enable quick adaptation to different tumor targets.
