Summary

This study investigated macrophage-membrane-coated nanoparticles (MΦ-NPs) as decoys to neutralize SARS-CoV-2 variants. The particles bound spike proteins of alpha, beta, and delta variants and neutralized live XBB.1.5 and WA strains in cell culture. In hamsters, intratracheal MΦ-NPs reduced lung viral burden for both strains, with no observed toxicity. The findings support MΦ-NPs as a promising host-mimicking antiviral platform.
